Cancer Appeal

“Building world class care for cancer patients in West, North and South Dorset”

The picture shows David Evans, Chairman of the Fortuneswell Cancer Trust,  with members of the FCT Committee presenting a cheque for £33,000 for the Cancer Appeal to Simon Pearson, Head of Fundraising.  Fortuneswell Cancer Trust, who are Dorset County Hospital Charity's major partner in this project, have now donated a total of £333,000 to the  Cancer Appeal.

The first donation for the £1.75m Appeal was received in February 2016 and to date  just over £1,500,000 has been received from grants, pledges, and donations from community groups, businesses and the general public. But we need your help to complete this project.

The project will develop cancer facilities for patients in North, South and West Dorset and support the provision of  radiotherapy services in Dorchester for the first time. Funding for one Linear Accelerator (LINAC) and the LINAC building has already been secured by Poole Hospital who will be operating the service.

Work on the new Cancer Outpatients Department, which is being built on top of the radiotherapy building, is progressing well. The project will also support improvements to the Hospital's existing Chemotherapy suite which will be reconfigured to create spaces that will transform the experience of cancer patients coming to Dorset County Hospital. The chemotherapy department will expand into the space vacated by the former Outpatients area which is being relocated into the new building. This will give family members space to sit with patients receiving chemotherapy, which currently they are unable to do. The range of cancers that will now be able to be treated include early Breast, Prostate, Lung (without concurrent chemotherapy), Bladder, Myeloma or Lymphoma, Rectal and Gynae Endometrial cancers as well as palliative care.

This project will cost £1.75 million and will result in world class cancer facilities for the people of West, North, and South Dorset. This part of the project will be totally charitably funded.

If you would like to find out more or make a donation please call our office (01305 253470) or email us (charity@dchft.nhs.uk). Also if you know someone who is a Trustee of a local Trust or Foundation who may be interested in this project do contact our office and we can meet to discuss and can provide a fuller project proposal.

In the event of the target being exceeded, all funds raised will be used in the provision of cancer services at Dorset County Hospital.
