Which Charitable Fund could I support?
There are a number of different charitable funds that are administered by the Hospital Charity. The funds are divided into two main types, those that receive gifts of a broad or general nature (called the General Funds) and those that receive gifts for a specific purpose (these are called Special Purpose Funds.)
GENERAL FUNDS
- General Purpose Fund
- Staff General Purpose Fund
- Patient General Purpose Fund
- Equipment General Purpose Fund
SPECIAL PURPOSE FUNDS
- Cancer Services Fund
- Children's Services Fund
- Diabetic Fund
- Renal Fund
- Special Care Baby Unit
- The Lillian Martin Ophthalmology Fund
- West Dorset Medical Society for Postgraduate Education and Research
- Arts in Hospital
DESIGNATED FUNDS
Although these funds are not individually registered with the Charities Commission (unlike the Special Purpose Funds above which are registered) they are important restricted/special purpose funds managed by the Charity.
- Cardiac
- Critical Care
- Stroke
- Urology
Why the GENERAL PURPOSE FUND is important to our Hospital:
This Fund is particularly important to the Hospital because many of our Hospital departments rely on the support and work of areas of the Hospital that are not immediately noticeable to the public. These supporting services, such as theatres and patient clinical support services (such as diagnostics, physiotherapy, pathology, haematology etc.) are crucial pieces in the picture of providing the best healthcare to our patients. An unrestricted gift to the General Purpose Fund gives the Charity the ability to direct resources to the Hospital where the need is most urgent and where the opportunities are greatest.
