Background:
• Originally from Durban, South Africa.
• Graduated from Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town
• Anaesthetic Training at the South East Thames school of Anaesthesia, based at King’s college London.
• Spend an additional year at the Royal Perth Hospital Western Australia, mostly doing research and pain medicine.
• DCH Consultant since 2005

• Acute Pain: reducing pain and analgesia side effects, improving patient’s experience, improving mobilisation and reducing length of stay.
• Regional Anaesthesia: especially in shoulder and ankle surgery
• Colorectal Surgery

The anaesthetic department and Critical Care Unit work together to provide care for elective and emergency patients throughout DCH. We also provide care for obstetric patients and an acute pain service.

Dr Karina MacLachlan

Background:
I trained in the South of England, rotating between Southampton Hospital, St George's Hospital London and The Oxford University Hospitals. I initially obtained a consultant post at The Royal Berkshire Hospital and then was appointed to my current post of Consultant Anaesthetist at Dorset County Hospital in 2006.

I was with surgeons from all different specialties such as ear, nose and throat, orthopaedics and general surgery.

I am educational lead for Intensive Care Medicine at DCH. I work closely with our department's College Tutor to deliver an educational and clinical programme for our trainees in Critical Care.
