Mr Richard Sim (Otolaryngologist Head and Neck Surgeon)

Background:
My basic surgical training was undertaken in Oxford, followed by a period of research into pathogenic mechanisms in meningitis at the Institute of Molecular Medicine. I was accepted onto the southwest ENT rotation in 2000 and have worked in a number of hospitals throughout the region including Bristol Children’s hospital.
I was awarded the TWJ fellowship in otology and neurotology with Professor Fagan in Sydney for 2007 and subsequently spent one year in Bristol as a locum consultant prior to my appointment at Dorset County in 2008.

Special interests:
I cover all aspects of ENT surgery but will be focussing on enhancing the capacity of the department in surgery of the parotid, submandibular and thyroid glands and in the fast-track diagnosis of head and neck cancer.

Clinics:
• Monday morning – Blandford / Dorset County Hospital (alternating)
• Monday afternoon – Yeovil
• Tuesday morning – Dorset County (alternating adult & paediatric clinic)
• Thursday morning – Weymouth Community Hospital
• Also run an urgent one-stop neck lump clinic with access to ultrasound scanning and cytology on the day. This offers gold standard treatment for patients with significant pathology and reassurance on the day to patients that do not need further treatment.

Mr Michail Chatzimichalis (Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist Head and Neck Surgeon)

Qualifications:

Batchelor of Medicine, Medical School at University of Patras Greece 1998

Title of Otolaryngologist, University of Athens Greece 2008 

PhD, University of Athens Greece 2013

Background:
Originally from Greece, I graduated from Medical School at University of Patras Greece and completed training in Otolaryngology in Athens.

·I spent three years in ENT department of the University Hospital in Zurich in Switzerland working as a clinical fellow in Otology with Professor Alex Huber.

In November 2011, I was appointed as a Senior Clinical Fellow in St. Mary's Hospital in London, working with Professor Anthony Narula.

I sub-specialized further by doing the Otology and Hearing Implants Fellowship in Cambridge working with Mr Axon.

Along with the clinical training I have a special interest in basic science research in middle ear surgery and laryngeal cancer and completed my PhD degree in 2013.

In November 2013 I was appointed as an ENT Consultant in Dorset County Hospital.

I have clinics in Dorchester at Dorset County Hospital on a Thursday (pm), Yeovil on a Tuesday (pm) and Friday (am 2nd and 4th week) and Weymouth on a Thursday (am).

Mr Timothy Ahmed (Consultant Otolaryngologist - Head and Neck Surgeon)

Background:
I studied at Imperial College London and undertook pre-registrar training in the South East, Wessex and London, including the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital. I completed my ENT higher specialist training on the London training programme. In my later training I undertook a year of tertiary paediatric otolaryngology at St George’s Hospital, Tooting and at Great Ormond Street Hospital. I spent a number of years developing skills in facial plastics and the surgical management of skin cancer of the head and neck including reconstructive techniques at Basingstoke, the Royal Surrey County Hospital and Frimley Park Hospital. I have also undertaken ENT training in the North West of England and spent a year working abroad in the Republic of Ireland. I commenced work as a consultant ENT surgeon at Dorset County Hospital in December 2015.

Mr Glenn Ford

Qualifications:
• BSc

Background:
I qualified from Guy’s Hospital in 1980 and then worked as an anatomy lecturer at Guy’s for a year.
I was in the Royal Army Medical Corps for 11 years – a year as a medical officer in Germany, and the rest in ENT.
I trained in St Thomas’ for two years and then Norwich and Great Ormond Street for a year each.
I was consultant in ENT in the Army for three years before starting work in Dorchester and Yeovil in 1994.
I have recently ended a period as Deputy Medical Director at DCH and I am now the Clinical Director for Surgery.
