Macmillan Therapy Team

We have been awarded funding from Macmillan cancer support for a two-year project to provide specialist therapy services to both inpatients and outpatients with a cancer diagnosis working with patients and staff throughout their pathway.

The integrated team consists of a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Health Care Support Worker and Therapy Assistant offering rehabilitation to patients who have cancer and providing support to their families.  Rehabilitation is vitally important to patients living with cancer to optimise function and enhance their quality of life.

The Macmillan Therapy Team have forged links with the Community Rehabilitation Team, Acute Hospital at Home Team, and Weldmar Hospice Therapy Team to follow up patients once home. We also signpost to other agencies and support groups as appropriate.

We offer groups such as breathlessness groups, fatigue management advice, and assist with Cancer Support Information Clinics to encourage patients to self-manage their symptoms.

The Therapy Team also facilitates discharge home for patients with a current cancer diagnosis in the last days or weeks of life when this is their preferred place of care, assessing home environment and providing equipment required.
