Dietitians
Dietitians apply the science of nutrition to the everyday food we eat. Their aim is to promote nutritional well being, treat disease and prevent nutrition related problems by enabling people to make informed choices about their food.
Anyone needing to see a Dietitian should be referred by a Hospital Consultant, GP, practice nurse or ward nurse.
Dietitians advise on special diets for a wide range of medical conditions including diabetes, kidney disease, bowel disorders, swallowing difficulties, cancer, obesity, rare inherited diseases, coeliac disease, coronary rehabilitation and artificial tube feeding. Relatives and carers of patients being advised by the dietitian are often seen as well.
Patients can be seen while an inpatient in Dorset County Hospital and some of the community hospitals. They can also be seen as outpatients at Dorset County Hospital, the community hospitals and within many GP practices.
