Interventional Radiology

In Interventional Radiology, minimally invasive procedures are performed using image guidance. Common interventional imaging modalities include fluoroscopy, computed tomography, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging.
Interventional procedures performed at DCH are:
- Angiography and venography
- Arterial and Venous Interventions eg angioplasty
- Biopsy – ultrasound, CT or fluoroscopy guided
- Discograms
- Embolization of bleeding vessels
- Nerve Blocks
- Varicose Vein Treatments
- Central venous Access Procedures, including hickman lines
- gastrostomy tubes
- Vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty
- Percuatneous biliary drainage/stent procedures
- Image guided drainage procedures
- Nephrostomy/ureteric stents
- Venacaval filters
- In the near future we should be able to provide uterine artery embolisation for fibroids and endovascular stent grafting for aortic aneurysms

Timings:
9am to 5pm
Out of hours services are provided for emergency patients being referred from the wards and casualty.

Nursing support:
Many of the patients undergoing interventional procedures will have efficient nursing support by the inhouse nursing team. The care after the procedure in many cases will be handed over to the initial referrers after the procedure. We also have a recovery bay allowing the patients to be monitored for the necessary periods after the procedure.

Safety Information:
You should inform your physician of any medications you are taking and if you have any allergies, especially to iodinated contrast materials. Also inform your doctor about recent illnesses or other medical conditions.
Women should always inform their physician if there is any possibility that they are pregnant.
