Symptomatic Breast Imaging
We provide symptomatic breast imaging services for patients referred to us by their healthcare providers via the breast clinic at Dorset County Hospital.
GPs do not have direct access to this service but can refer symptomatic patients to the breast clinic at Dorset County Hospital, for which we provide breast imaging, usually as a 'one-stop' service at the time of the clinic.
Follow up imaging for breast cancer patients from year 1 - 5 is provided via the breast clinic. Mammograms from year 7 - 11 are performed at DCH but organised by the Dorset Breast Screening Unit. A few are still organised by GPs.
Breast Screening
These examinations are not performed at DCH but via the Dorset Breast Screening Unit
Safety Information
Do not schedule your mammogram for the week before your period if your breasts are usually tender during this time. The best time for a mammogram is one week following your period. Always inform your doctor if there is any possibility that you are pregnant.
Do not wear deodorant, talcum powder or lotion under your arms or on your breasts on the day of the exam. These can appear on the mammogram as calcium spots.
