Friends of Dorset County Hospital
We were founded in 1956 to provide comfort and help to patients at the old Dorset County Hospital, their relatives and friends.
Today's modern hospital is very different, but our volunteers still do what we were set up to do back in 1956. We also provide a service to patients and visitors, visiting the wards twice daily and having a one stop shop providing the little extras the patients may need. With the profits from these services we are able to provide facilities and equipment that is not always available through NHS funding.
The Friends volunteers run the hospital shop and trolley service.
Anyone who wants to support the work of the hospital can join the Friends for just £5 a year. If you or a loved one have been cared for at Dorset County Hospital it’s a good way of giving something back, whether you are 16 or 80. We will send you an annual newsletter which will update you on the activities of the Friends.
We are always delighted to hear from people who can spare some free time to help on the trolley or in the shop.
