Learning Disability and Autism Champions
There are Learning Disability and Autism Champions on many different wards and departments in the hospital.
They are staff who have personal experience or are very passionate about making sure people get the right care and support when coming into hospital.
Being a Learning Disability and Autism Champion means:
- They help to make reasonable adjustments for people needing care in hospital
- They support and listen to individuals and carers
- They support people to communicate using tools such as the Hospital Communication Book. This is a communication aid with pictures and symbols available in most wards and departments
- They work with the Learning Disability and Mental Capacity Act Lead, community groups and community colleagues to raise awareness of health issues and reduce barriers in accessing hospital care
