Background
I trained at Southampton Medical School and after house jobs spent a year working in South East Queensland in surgical specialities. Following this I undertook basic surgical training at Dorset County Hospital.
I spent two years in research at St Thomas' Hospital in London and produced a thesis studying the feasibility of quantifying the resolution of deep vein thrombosis with a novel MRI technique.
My higher general surgical training was in the South West Thames region of the London Deanery with a sub-specialty interest in colorectal surgery. I have spent time in specialist laparoscopic, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor units.
Prior to my appointment at Dorset County Hospital, I undertook a Fellowship in colorectal surgery at University College Hospital London with particular training in pelvic floor and anal conditions.

Background
Mr Stubbs completed his undergraduate medical training at St Bartholomew's and the Royal London Hospital's medical school before accepting a surgical training rotation and obtained his MRCS and CCBST. He continued his surgical training in London and gained further experience at the Royal Marsden Hospital where he developed an interest in the surgical management of cancer.
After a period of research at University College London, where he studied neo-angiogenesis (new vessel growth in cancer cells), he obtained a Masters in Surgical Sciences, gaining a distinction in his understanding of cancer and the environment. He then completed his higher surgical training rotation in London and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons.
Mr Stubbs gained further experience and developed his sub-specialist interests in laparoscopic surgery and surgical management of bowel cancer and inflammatory bowel disease during a Fellowship at University College London Hospital, before taking up a substantive position as a Consultant at Dorset County Hospital.
He is currently College Tutor to the Royal College of Surgeons of England and sits on the Wessex deanery specialist advisory committee as the higher surgical training representative to Dorset County Hospital.

Background
I qualified in 1993 and for the first 10 years of my career worked on a surgical ward, progressing to Deputy Sister. This involved emergency and postoperative care for patients including colorectal, urology, upper GI, breast and vascular specialties. During this time, I completed my BSc (Hons) degree and additional courses in critical care and high dependence nursing.
I then moved into an educational role as a Clinical Practice Educator supporting pre-registration nursing students and their mentors, coordinating, and contributing to regular education sessions, Trust Induction and NVQ training for health care support workers. I was also responsible for tissue viability across the Trust and the introduction of several new Trust policies, clinical observation skills workshops for staff and an online mentorship update course.
In 2008, I returned to a clinical role as a Colorectal Cancer Nurse Specialist, building on my surgical experience of caring for patients with bowel cancer. I commenced my MSc in Advanced Nursing Practice focusing on colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal diseases. This role developed to include the assessment and investigation of patients with undiagnosed conditions and Lead nurse for the colorectal nursing service. When I achieve a Distinction in MSc Advanced Nursing Practice and was then appointed Consultant Nurse.
I am the Wessex committee member of the Association of Coloproctology Nurses and Clinical Director for care group IB.

New treatments introduced
I was involved in setting up the colorectal telephone assessment service in 2008. This significantly reduced the waiting time for patient appointments and investigations. This has been positively evaluated clinically and by patients. This is now recommended by NHS England (2018) as a rapid diagnostic and assessment pathway.
