Fortuneswell Cancer Trust is a registered charity that seeks to improve the services to cancer patients in Dorset, mainly through Dorset County Hospital. We have no paid staff – it is run by trustees and a committee with other volunteers helping out when necessary. Our running costs are minimal so donations really do help cancer patients locally.

Since its inception in 1998, the Trust has received several hundreds of thousands of pounds from donors and fundraisers, from legacies and funeral collections and through its own fundraising events.

In addition to contributing significant sums of money towards major projects at the Dorset County Hospital , we continue to:

  • Fund items of specialised equipment which make patients more comfortable or help clinical staff to more accurately tailor cancer treatment to individuals’ needs
  • Pay for nurses to attend courses and conferences to help keep their skills up-to-date
  • Fund reflexology for cancer patients
  • Provide newspapers for patients as they undergo chemotherapy treatment
