Patient meal service

The catering services department provides meals for every patient on the wards across the hospital. All meals are prepared by our trained chefs on the day from fresh ingredients and where suitable, are from produce local to Dorset or the South West.

Fresh milk is delivered daily and comes from farms within 10 miles of the hospital. 

We provide our inpatients with breakfast, lunch, supper as well as snacks and hot and cold beverages throughout the day. 

Breakfast is continental style with freshly homemade porridge.

Lunch is a selection of hot or cold main meals and snacks served with vegetables and potatoes and finished with a choice of hot or cold dessert.

Supper is a choice of a hot main meal and a selection of salad, sandwich or filled roll and a choice of cold sweets.

Snacks are provided with both the lunch and supper  meals for patients to eat at their leisure. Snacks are also available from the ward 24 hours a day for patients that have missed a meal or are hungry through the day or night.  

Beverages are served through the day with a selection of hot drinks (tea, coffee or hot chocolate) or cold drinks (squashes). Jugs of fresh drinking water are available through the day at the patient’s bedside.

We can cater for all dietary needs of our patients upon request by the patient or by our team of dietitians. We diet code all of our patient menu cards including choices for the following diets, high protein/calorie, gluten free, healthy eating, soft diet, vegetarian and vegan. We also have a menu for patient to select from to meet any cultural and religious needs.

Damers Restaurant

Damers is located in North Wing Level 2 and is open from 7.30am until 7.30pm seven days a week (with a few exceptions for cleaning and restocking). Seating is available both inside and outside (next to the Robert White Centre).

All meals are prepared by our trained chefs on the day and includes dishes suitable for a range of dietary needs including gluten-free, healthy eating, vegetarian and vegan.

A range of beverages, both hot and cold, are available throughout the day. 

Breakfast is served from 7.30am to 9.30am. There is a choice of continental items, a full cooked English breakfast or freshly homemade porridge. Homemade scones (both fruit and savory) are available Monday to Friday.

Mid-morning coffee is served from 9.30am to 12pm and includes a choice of hot drinks (coffee, tea, hot chocolate) and a range of snacks, cakes and pastries. 

Lunch is served from 12pm to 2.15pm and includes a selection of hot main meals. There is also a salad bar (available Monday to Friday) and a selection of sandwiches, filled rolls and paninis to choose from with a selection of hot and cold drinks, snacks and Purbeck Ice Cream to accompany it.

Afternoon tea is served from 2.30pm to 5pm where there is a selection of snacks, sandwiches, cakes and our famous Dorset Cream Tea with Osmington Clotted Cream available.

Supper is served from 5.30pm to 7.30pm and there is a choice of a hot main meal and snacks, sandwich or filled roll, hot dessert and a choice of cold sweets.

We also all offer meal deals such as a sandwich, crisps and drink for £2.99 and serve our very popular carvery on a Wednesday. 

The Terrace Café

The Terrace is located in South Wing Level 2 and is open Monday to Friday 8am to 2pm. 

A selection of both hot and cold beverages are available, as well as sandwiches, toasties, salads, cakes and snacks. 

From 8am to 10.30am you can also get bacon and sausage baps, and from 11.30am to 1.30pm jacket potatoes with fillings and salad are also available.

There is currently no seating available in the café but there is seating outside. 

Costa​ Coffee

Costa Coffee is located in North Wing Level 1, close to the main reception. It is open Monday to Friday 7am until 7pm and weekends from 9am until 5pm.

Vending machines

We have two vending machines in the hospital. 

One is located in North Wing Level 1, close to the main entrance, and serves hot and cold beverages, confectionary and crisps as well as snacks and meals.

The second is in our Emergency Department and serves hot and cold beverages, confectionery and crisps.
