Alex trained at St. Georges Hospital London before completing basic general surgical training in Kent. In order to pursue his interest in endovenous therapies he was appointed a senior vascular and endovascular fellowship at the nationally renowned Freeman Hospital vascular unit in Newcastle and was subsequently asked to take up a consultant post there. Alex returned to the south in 2013 with his young family to assume the post of consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon at the Dorset County Hospital, part of the Dorset and Wiltshire Vascular Network.

In concert with his good friend and colleague James Metcalfe, they have formed the Dorset County Vascular Group and along with their radiologists and associated specialists they continually strive to be champions for excellence and innovation for all their patients.

New treatments introduced
We offer one stop clinics for the management of venous disease and renal access surgery. This reduces the number of attendances each patient has to make ensuring the patients have their consultation, imaging and management plan formulated with a date for surgery within a single clinic visit.

We offer Day case minimally invasive endovenous radiofrequency ablation of varicose veins as first line therapy in line with current NICE guidance.

Together with our anaesthetic colleagues we have continued to develop the local and regional anaesthesia service at the DCH. This allows the majority of our renal access and varicose vein patients to remain awake for many procedures as part of a walk in walk out same day discharge service.
