Our Services

The Endoscopy Unit is JAG Accredited {The Joint Advisory Group (JAG) on Gastrointestinal (GI) Endoscopy} We aim to provide high standards of specialist care for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

The Endoscopy team will work with you making your individual needs their primary focus and maintaining your dignity and confidentiality at all times. 

The Unit also supports the training of Medical and Clinical Endoscopists.

Our unit has three procedure rooms equipped to perform:

  • Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy {OGD}
  • Flexible Sigmoidoscopy 
  • Colonoscopy
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Ebus
  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography {ERCP}

Medifer Referrals

Dorset County Hospital is working in partnership with Medefer to support waiting list initiatives. Medefer is an NHS Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered and regulated provider, with a national network of NHS consultants working in partnership with the NHS to provide a virtual outpatient service. Medefer aims to improve patient experience, reduce delays in care and improve outcomes for patients. 

If your referral has been passed to Medefer, you will receive an introductory letter with Medefer's contact details for any queries.

Attending your appointment 

Please ensure you bring a list of medications and contact numbers for your Next of Kin and individual collecting you to your appointment.  A relative or friend is welcome to drop you off at the department. We will contact them once you have had your procedure to let them know when they can collect you. 

If you are planning to have sedation you will need to be collected from the department and have a responsible adult with you for 24 hours.
